Chicago Weekend Shootings Leave Four Dead, 20 Injured


At least four people were killed and 20 others wounded in a series of shootings across Chicago, Illinois, United States, over the weekend, according to police. Victims ranged in age from 8 to 64 years old, with incidents spanning multiple neighborhoods between Friday evening and Sunday night.

Friday Shootings Begin the Weekend Violence

The first shooting occurred Friday around 8:30 p.m. when a 30-year-old man was wounded in the 4900 block of West Fullerton Avenue. He was struck in the left knee and taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition.

An 18-year-old man was injured less than two hours later on West 71st Street, sustaining gunshot wounds to his right bicep and rib. He was hospitalized at Christ Hospital in good condition.

Around 10:11 p.m., a 57-year-old man was shot multiple times in a drive-by attack in the 10200 block of South Eberhart Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Two 43-year-old men were shot during an argument later Friday evening on South California Avenue. One was listed in critical condition, while the other remained in good condition. Shortly afterward, police found a 40-year-old woman with multiple wounds on South Praries Avenue. She was transported in critical condition.

Saturday Incidents Across Chicago

Shootings continued into Saturday, beginning at 1:50 a.m. when a 33-year-old man was shot in the backside on South Union Avenue. He was hospitalized in fair condition.

Later that morning, a 33-year-old man attempting to break into an apartment on West Monroe Street was fatally shot by a 28-year-old woman with a concealed carry license. Police reported the case appeared to be domestic-related.

By the afternoon, two separate shootings left a 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old man seriously injured on South Union Avenue and South State Street. In the evening, a 44-year-old man was critically wounded during an argument on South Hamlin Avenue.

Sunday Shootings Result in Deaths

Sunday saw several deadly and injurious incidents. At 12:34 a.m., officers responding to a vehicle crash on South Avenue M discovered a 20-year-old man fatally shot in the head and a 20-year-old woman wounded in the leg.

Shortly after, two 37-year-old men were shot on South Shore Drive, both surviving with good conditions. Another shooting at 2:50 a.m. on South Winchester Avenue left three people injured but stable.

Around the same time, a 38-year-old man was shot in the chest on North Halsted Street, while a 28-year-old man sustained a graze wound to his leg. Police took the latter into custody.

Later that day, an 8-year-old girl was shot in the finger while inside a residence on West 83rd Street. She was treated in good condition. By mid-afternoon, a 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at Christ Hospital after being found with a gunshot wound to the chest on South Emerald Avenue.

That evening, two men were shot in an alley near West 25th Street. A 42-year-old victim was hospitalized in fair condition, while a 64-year-old man was critically injured after self-transporting to St. Anthony Hospital.

Ongoing Investigation

Chicago police confirmed that unless otherwise noted, no arrests have been made in connection with these shootings. Investigations remain ongoing across the city.
