Charlotte Family Devastated After Teen Killed in Home Shooting While Young Children Slept

A Community Shaken by Tragedy

A quiet Sunday morning in Charlotte turned into heartbreak when 16-year-old Tyshaun Lamont Stokes was shot and killed inside his own home. The tragedy unfolded while three young children, all under the age of six, were asleep in the house. Thankfully, the children and three adult women inside were unharmed, but the family is now left reeling from the loss.

Early Morning Attack

Police responded to the scene shortly after 3:30 a.m. on August 17. Investigators reported that multiple shots were fired into the residence, one of which struck Tyshaun. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Arrests Made in Connection

On August 28, authorities arrested two juveniles believed to be involved in the shooting. Days later, on September 2, charges were announced. A 16-year-old suspect is being charged as an adult with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, while a 14-year-old suspect is facing a secure custody order for first-degree murder.

No Connection Between Victim and Suspects

According to investigators, Tyshaun did not know the suspects. A motive has not yet been determined, leaving both the family and the broader community searching for answers in the wake of such a senseless act of violence.

Children Witness Danger but Escape Harm

Inside the home during the attack were three small children—a 5-year-old girl, a 3-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy. Though unharmed physically, the incident highlights the terrifying risks faced by families caught in violent crimes.

Investigation Still Ongoing

The case remains an open and active investigation, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and work toward understanding why the shooting took place.
