Four Bronx Shootings in One Day Leave Two Dead and Amazon Driver Wounded

A Violent Day in the Bronx

A wave of gun violence swept across the Bronx on Tuesday, unfolding in just eight hours and leaving two people dead and two others wounded. Among the victims was an Amazon delivery driver who became an unintended casualty of crossfire while on the job.

Delivery Driver Caught in Crossfire

The 31-year-old driver was sitting in his truck at the corner of Bryant Avenue and East Tremont Avenue in the West Farms neighborhood when two individuals opened fire on each other shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Residents nearby described hearing a series of gunshots, two at first, followed by five more. One woman noted that the most unsettling part was the timing, as children from the elementary school across the street, P.S. 6, would soon be leaving for the day.

The driver, who police believe was not the intended target, was struck in the ankle. Neighbors expressed frustration and sadness, saying he was simply doing his job when he was caught in the violence. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.

The man works for Logistics Xpress, a company contracted by Amazon. His manager rushed to the scene after learning what had happened. The manager explained that the driver called to say he had been hit but never saw where the shots came from. “He just said he heard the gunfire and then felt it in his ankle,” the manager recounted, calling the incident a heartbreaking situation for someone simply trying to make a living.

Morning Shooting in Tremont

The day of violence began at 8:10 a.m. in the Tremont section. A 32-year-old man, identified as Clay Monsanto, was shot in the back at 1853 Anthony Avenue. He did not survive his injuries.

Fatal Midday Shooting in Soundview

Just a few hours later, at around 1:10 p.m., another deadly shooting occurred in the Soundview neighborhood. A 34-year-old man, identified as Kelvin Mosquea, was found with a gunshot wound to his torso in front of 710 Croes Avenue. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Evening Shooting in Belmont

Later in the day, a 26-year-old man was shot outside 2216 Adams Place in the Belmont section. He suffered two gunshot wounds to his leg and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Other Gunfire Incidents Without Injuries

In addition to these four shootings, there were two other separate incidents where shots were fired in the Bronx but no injuries were reported.

Hospitals Overwhelmed Despite Overall Decline in Gun Violence

Hospitals across the Bronx have been overwhelmed this month with shooting victims, even as overall gun violence in the city showed a decline in July. The situation has fueled ongoing debates about public safety measures and whether additional support from state or federal forces is necessary.

City officials have insisted that local law enforcement is capable of handling the situation, while state leaders continue to defend their approach to public safety and crime prevention.
