Cam Little Drills 70-Yard Field Goal in Jaguars Preseason Loss to Steelers
Jaguars kicker Cam Little connected on a 70-yard field goal as the first half ended in Saturday night’s preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers at EverBank Stadium — a distance that would have set a new NFL record if achieved in a regular-season game.
“Can’t lie, there was probably a little bit of doubt,” Little said afterward. “But we attempted a lot of long field goals in training camp — had some 60, probably 65-pluses before in practice. I just wanted to go out there and see what it would do.”
The ball appeared to clear the crossbar by three to four yards. If it had counted in the record books, it would have surpassed Justin Tucker’s 66-yarder against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 26, 2021, at Ford Field. According to Elias, there have been eight failed field goal attempts of 70 yards or more during the Super Bowl era.
Little’s celebration included multiple fist pumps, and holder Logan Cooke threw his hands up the moment the kick left Little’s foot before giving him a push in excitement. Travis Hunter was the first player off the sideline to congratulate Little, delivering a chest bump before teammates surrounded him.
“That was pretty cool to see, huh?” Jaguars coach Liam Coen remarked.
A sixth-round pick from Arkansas, Little went 27-for-29 on field goal attempts as a rookie in 2024, converting five of six from 50-plus yards, including a 59-yarder that tied Josh Scobee’s franchise record.
With one second left in the first half, Coen called a timeout and looked to Little to gauge his readiness for the 70-yard attempt. There was no hesitation.
“Me and Logan were like, ‘We want to kick it. We want to kick it,’” Little said. “When he gave me the opportunity… adrenaline’s a beautiful thing. We went out there and executed.”
Little carried the football off the field and, about 30 minutes later, admitted he still hadn’t seen the ball go through. Standing at 6-foot-1, he sometimes struggles to see over offensive linemen but said he knew the kick had a chance.
“When Logan’s eyes got really big, he’s freaking out,” Little said. “I caught it really good, obviously.”
