19-Year-Old Drowns While Swimming at Calaveras Lake
A 19-year-old man who drowned Sunday at Calaveras Lake has been identified as Brayan Salvador Morales Mota, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 11 a.m. after reports of a swimmer in distress near the boat docks at 12991 Bernhardt Road. Multiple agencies, including the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and San Antonio Fire Department, coordinated a large-scale water rescue operation.
Despite swift response efforts, Mota was not located until just before 6 p.m., following a search that lasted nearly seven hours. Authorities said the teen had been swimming near the docks when he went under and did not resurface.
As the search progressed, rescue crews deployed sonar technology around 2:30 p.m., which ultimately led to the discovery and recovery of Mota’s body.
The incident prompted a coordinated effort among several local agencies, all working together to navigate challenging conditions at the lake.
