Veteran Music Supervisor and Husband Found Fatally Shot in Their Encino Home Amid Burglary Investigation
A horrifying scene unfolded in a quiet Encino neighborhood as longtime music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were found dead inside their upscale Los Angeles home on Monday afternoon. The couple, both 70, died of multiple gunshot wounds in what authorities are now calling a random double homicide.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a welfare check at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 14 at a residence located on White Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Kaye and Deluca in separate rooms of their $4.5-million home. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced them dead at the scene.
Kaye, known for her extensive contributions to televised music programming, notably served as a music producer and supervisor on American Idol from 2002 to 2023. Her career also included credits on Lip Sync Battle, The Singing Bee, and several Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. Her husband, Thomas Deluca, was a musician with his own respected body of work.
Authorities quickly identified 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, a resident of Encino, as the suspect in the killings. He was taken into custody shortly after the incident. According to police, Boodarian allegedly entered the couple’s home—possibly through an unlocked door—before they arrived, leading to a confrontation that turned deadly.
Police believe the suspect had no prior relationship with the victims. “The attack appears to be random,” investigators noted, adding that the victims may have interrupted an ongoing burglary.
This tragedy may be linked to an earlier incident at the same property. On July 10, just four days before the fatal shooting, officers responded to a possible attempted burglary at the address around 4:00 p.m. At the time, no signs of forced entry were discovered. Investigators now suspect that the same individual may have attempted to access the home previously, indicating a premeditated return.
Neighbors described unsettling activity in the area during that time. One local resident, Amee Faggen, recounted how her tenant spotted someone hopping a fence near the victims’ home on July 10 and promptly contacted authorities. "We haven’t heard anything since then," she said. "We have no idea if it’s even related or not."
Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene on foot after the shootings. As of now, no additional suspects are being sought.
The entertainment community has been left in mourning. In a statement, American Idol expressed heartbreak over the loss of Robin Kaye and her husband. “Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009,” the show said. “She was deeply loved and respected by all who worked with her. Our deepest sympathies go out to her loved ones during this devastating time.”
Kaye's work helped shape the musical direction of one of America's most iconic reality shows for over two decades. Her tragic death, along with her husband’s, has left a void in both the entertainment industry and her local community.
