Man Killed in Brutal Dog Attack at Lancaster Home
A man tragically lost his life on the night of Saturday, July 13, 2025, after being mauled by several dogs in the backyard of a residence in Lancaster, prompting a swift and tense response from law enforcement and animal control.
Deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the 44000 block of 22nd Street after receiving a call reporting that a man was being attacked by dogs in the rear yard of a home. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim on the ground surrounded by four aggressive dogs.
As deputies attempted to intervene, one of the dogs turned vicious, forcing an officer to fire a round and strike the dog in the leg to disperse the pack. Once the dogs scattered, paramedics were able to reach the injured man and transport him to a hospital.
Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
Following the attack, Animal Control officers removed several adult dogs and puppies from the property. Some of the animals did not survive the operation, as deputies had to act quickly to stop the mauling and gain access to the victim.
Neighbors reported that law enforcement had been seen at the residence multiple times in the past. One local resident, who asked not to be identified, described the response: “We saw them start bringing out the dogs and unfortunately, a couple of the dogs didn’t make it. They had to take care of business to try and save the man’s life.”
The incident also raised concerns about the welfare of a child who was inside the home at the time. Authorities confirmed that the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) was called in to assess the situation and ensure the child's safety.
The deceased man was known to the people living at the residence, though investigators have not yet determined why he was in the backyard at the time of the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
