Woman Dies After Falling From Moving Truck and Being Struck by Car in Southwest Houston
A tragic overnight incident in southwest Houston left a woman dead after she fell from the bed of a moving pickup truck and was subsequently struck by another vehicle, both of which fled the scene.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 11, 2024, just before 2 a.m., on Almeda Road near Holmes Road, according to the Houston Police Department. Authorities say the woman had been riding in the bed of a northbound pickup truck when she lost her balance and fell onto the roadway.
Witnesses reported that the woman was standing and possibly dancing in the back of the truck at the time she fell. Moments later, she was hit by another vehicle, which did not stop after the collision.
Both the driver of the pickup truck and the driver of the second vehicle fled the scene, leaving the woman critically injured on the road. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, and no arrests have been made as the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the vehicles involved to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065, or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
This incident highlights the extreme danger of riding in the bed of pickup trucks, a practice that, while not uncommon, is widely discouraged due to the risk of severe injury or death, especially at highway speeds or in urban traffic environments.
