Tragedy at Mammoth Motocross as Rising Star Aidan Zingg Passes Away at 16
Aidan Zingg, a rising name in the world of motocross, tragically lost his life at the age of 16 following a devastating mid-race accident during the 2025 Mammoth Motocross event held in Mammoth Lakes, California, on June 28. The young rider sustained fatal injuries while competing, a loss that has sent shockwaves through the motocross community.
Reports from multiple respected figures in the industry confirmed that Zingg went down during a corner in the race. He was reportedly struck by multiple bikes and remained unconscious on the track for two laps before the race was red-flagged. While official confirmation from the Mammoth Lakes Police Department and race organizers 2X Promotions has not yet been released, records from the event show Zingg did not finish his race and did not start the next one.
Tributes poured in from all corners of the motocross world. Veteran journalist Donn Maeda shared an emotional message, saying, “My heart goes out to the Zingg family. I can’t even fathom what they’re feeling. Rest easy, buddy.” Others in the industry, including Kris Keefer, MotoSport.com, and Racer X Illustrated, echoed the heartbreak and called for support for Zingg’s loved ones during this unimaginable time.
Aidan’s promise as an athlete had captured the attention of major brands and racing teams. He was a recent addition to Kawasaki’s Team Green development program and held sponsorships from well-known names including Oakley, Bell, and Renthal. Those who knew him remember not only his immense talent, but also his humility and warmth—rare qualities in someone so young and already so accomplished.
Donn Maeda reflected on meeting Zingg during an early interview when the young rider was still on a 65cc bike. “He smirked when I asked how long until he beat his dad and said, ‘Soon, I’m sure,’” Maeda recalled. “Even when he transitioned to big bikes and the confidence that comes with it, Aidan never changed. He always went out of his way to say hello.”
The motocross community, especially those who have followed the sport’s youth circuit, are mourning the loss deeply. Many remember seeing Zingg at events like Mini Monsters at Lincoln Trail, where he left a lasting impression not just with his riding skills, but with his character.
The teen’s last Instagram post, shared in collaboration with MotoSport.com just ten days before the accident, has taken on a haunting tone. The caption, placed alongside a video of Zingg racing off-road, reads: “Remember the name… @aidanzingg.” It now serves as a poignant farewell to a life and career that ended far too soon.
As tributes continue to pour in, the loss of Aidan Zingg stands as a sobering reminder of both the thrill and risk that come with high-speed motorsports. His passion, promise, and presence will be missed, but never forgotten.
