Newborn Found Alive Beside Deceased Mother in Phoenix Apartment Sparks Emotional Rescue
A heartbreaking discovery in South Phoenix has gripped the community, after police officers responding to a welfare check found a newborn baby girl clinging to life beside her deceased mother inside an apartment. The case unfolded on May 14, when concerned neighbors contacted authorities about a resident they had not seen or heard from for several days.
The apartment, located near Central Avenue and Illini Street, just north of Broadway Road, became the scene of a tense and emotional rescue. When officers arrived, they were met with a locked and silent unit. Observant neighbors had noticed a pileup of uncollected packages outside the door, prompting them to alert police. Their quick thinking likely saved a life.
Body camera footage released by Phoenix Police shows the moment officers kicked down the door to gain entry. Inside, they found the lifeless body of the mother and her infant daughter still breathing, although severely dehydrated and in poor health. One officer can be heard urgently saying, “The baby’s here… the baby’s still alive.”
According to Sgt. Brian Bower, the child had likely been alone for several days without care, and the toll on her small body was immediately apparent. The baby was rushed to receive urgent medical attention. Authorities confirmed that while the mother’s death remains under investigation, there are currently no signs of foul play.
The deceased woman was identified by family as 31-year-old Jade Hardin, who had relocated to Arizona from Dayton, Ohio, several years ago. The infant girl, named Harmony, was believed to be only a few weeks old at the time of her mother’s passing.
Family members were notified after receiving what they described as the most devastating news of their lives. Rachel Hardin, Jade’s sister, shared that the child’s father from a previous relationship reached out to inform them of the tragedy. Another sister, Timesha Hardin, described Jade as “an outstanding person… funny, kind, and someone who got along with everyone.” The family is now grieving from afar, with most relatives still based in Ohio.
Police said the apartment was in clean condition, with nothing visibly unusual or alarming that could suggest the cause of death. Jade's passing remains unexplained for now, pending further medical and forensic investigation.
In the wake of the incident, many have begun calling Harmony a miracle baby, having survived days without nourishment or care. As of now, she is reportedly in good health, and the Department of Child Safety (DCS) is actively involved in determining her future placement and care.
This tragic event has not only highlighted the importance of community awareness and quick action, but also the fragile nature of life. Thanks to the concerned neighbor’s call, a precious life was saved, offering a glimmer of hope amid the sorrow.
